Moulay Abdellah Stadium

Moulay Abdellah Stadium

Just seven kilometers from the center of the Moroccan capital, the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex stands as one of the country’s most iconic venues. Named in honour of Prince Moulay Abdellah, this modern stadium serves as the beating heart of sport in Rabat and is one of the flagship infrastructures of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025.

Inaugurated on 5 September 2025 during Match Day 7 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the stadium offers a capacity of 68,095 seats, expandable to 68,700 for the 2030 World Cup. It is now the second-largest stadium in the country, just behind the Grand Stadium of Tangier.

Owned by the Urban Community of Rabat and managed by SONARGES, it is part of a vast sports complex that includes an Olympic stadium, a 10,000-seat indoor arena, and an Olympic swimming pool.

A Venue Oriented Toward the Future

Renovated several times — notably in 2000, in 2014 for the FIFA Club World Cup, and then completely rebuilt in 2023 — the Moulay Abdellah Stadium has been transformed to meet the highest international standards. Its new configuration removes the athletics track to create a football-dedicated arena, equipped with modern media facilities (a 600 m² press room, mixed zone, interview area) and VIP boxes designed for major events.

A regular home for the Moroccan national team, the stadium has already hosted prestigious competitions: AFCON 1988, the FIFA Club World Cup in 2014 and 2022, the 2019 African Games, and the Women’s AFCON 2022, marked by the historic run of the Atlas Lionesses to the final.

A Temple of Major Events

Memorable evenings have marked its history:
– AS FAR’s victory in the 1985 African Club Champions Cup
– Several CAF Cup finals
– The Atlas Lionesses’ triumph over Nigeria in the 2022 Women’s AFCON semifinal
– The FIFA Club World Cups in 2014 and 2022, including Real Madrid’s victory
