The new Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium stands as a truly urban stadium, connected to its surroundings and integrated into the daily life of Rabat. A contemporary expression of Moroccan culture, it combines glazed terracotta, an ancestral heritage, with modern engineering to create an iconic design visible from the skies above the capital.
Built on the historic FUS site, the stadium will offer 22,000 seats with no athletics track, bringing spectators closer to the pitch. Nearby sports facilities will be repositioned to ease circulation across the entire site. Located at the corner of two major avenues, the project breaks with the current isolation: the boundary wall is removed and replaced with open facades facing landscaped plazas with ticket offices, shops, and dining areas.
The pitch level, set below ground, allows the lower tier to be embedded into the terrain’s topography. Spectators access a wide circular concourse directly from the plazas, offering panoramic views of the field. The arena adopts an oval shape, enclosed within a rectangular volume perfectly aligned with the city grid.
The exterior skin made of glazed terracotta, composed of modules inspired by Berber motifs, forms a bioclimatic facade: openwork at the top, promoting natural ventilation, reducing heat build-up, and reflecting daylight. Its slightly glossy white colour enhances thermal comfort while elevating its aesthetic appeal.
The roof ensures a transition between the rectangular shell and the oval arena. Made of suspended radial metal structures, it is covered with wooden panels and photovoltaic membranes, contributing to energy production and thermal inertia. Rainwater is collected to irrigate the pitch.
Designed over five levels, the stadium includes VIP boxes, official stands, panoramic lounges, media areas, and command zones. The structured access system ensures optimal flow management, on match days and throughout the week, confirming Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium's role as an emblematic and sustainable landmark of the Moroccan capital.
