Edo Queens of Nigeria have been crowned champions of the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers after a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin’s Ainonvi FC in the final on Friday.

The Nigerian champions secured their place in the CAF Women’s Champions League later this year with three goals in either half at the Stade de La Paix de Bouaké.

Suliat Abideen opened the scoring for Edo Queens just before the break, capitalizing on their early control of the midfield to break through the Benin defence.

Edo Queens doubled their lead in the 59th minute through Emem Essien, who has been one of the standout players of the tournament.

Essien's solo effort saw her easily bypass the Benin goalkeeper, Alassane Sauratou, from close range, showcasing her skill and composure.

The victory was sealed in the 76th minute when Ainonvi FC’s Elizabeth Ukandu inadvertently headed the ball into her own net under pressure from the relentless Edo Queens attack.

Despite creating several opportunities, Ainonvi FC were unable to break down the resolute Edo Queens defense, which held firm to maintain a clean sheet.

With this win, Edo Queens succeed Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies as WAFU B champions and will go on to represent the region in the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League, where they will aim to continue their impressive form on the continental stage.
