The CAF safety and security department was established on 3rd February, 2019 with the appointment of Dr. Christian Emeruwa as the pioneer Head of Safety and Security. The mandate of the department is majorly to ensure the promotion of stadium safety and security culture in all CAF competitions and tournaments as well as enhance safety and security operations during CAF Events while supporting member association in the development of capacity for the delivery of safety and security services across Africa.
The department is also committed towards establishing standards on the operations of safety and security across all member associations in Africa and thus has produced the first CAF Safety and Security Regulations to be fully implemented within Africa.
The department is also committed to the continuous training of CAF safety and security officers, National Safety and Security Officers, Club Safety and Security Officers as well as all strategic stakeholders responsible for safety and security operations during CAF and MA’s football competitions and tournaments.
Apart from monitoring the various safety and security related situations in all countries across Africa the department is also committed to building relationships with sister confederation and FIFA as well as all other safety and security organizations that can help improve the safety and security standards in Africa.
